Four local breweries will be coming together to raise money and awareness for ALS this evening, July 16th. The head brewers of Russian River Brewing Company, Bear Republic Brewing Company, Iron Springs Pub & Brewery, and Third Street Aleworks will be at The Third Annual Ales for ALS BBQ & Tasting. This is taking place at Third Street Aleworks, located at 610 3rd St. in downtown Santa Rosa.

Third Street Aleworks will be closing the brewery to the public for this private event, which will begin at 7pm. The price of admission is $35 ($40 at the door) and includes unlimited food and beer tastings. All four participating breweries made a special ale that they will present at tonight’s event. While each is different from the next, each beer shares the same hop profile.

As of 3pm, Third Street Aleworks confirmed that they still had a limited amount of tickets available, but they expect this event to sell out.

Alsa.org says “ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. A-myo-trophic comes from the Greek language. “A” means no. “Myo” refers to muscle, and “Trophic” means nourishment – “No muscle nourishment.” When a muscle has no nourishment, it “atrophies” or wastes away. “Lateral” identifies the areas in a person’s spinal cord where portions of the nerve cells that signal and control the muscles are located. As this area degenerates it leads to scarring or hardening (“sclerosis”) in the region.”
