The story behind the Heritage

In the wake of their win at the Great American Beer Festival this month, Bear Republic is rightfully crowing about taking a Bronze home in the Scotch Ale category for their beer Heritage. (The only other Sonoma County winners were Third Street Aleworks, which took two medals, and Russian River with one. Nearby Moylans also picked one up). It will also feature cider from Sebastopol’s California Cider Company, parent of Ace Cider and the largest independent cidery in the country. There will be some interesting How-To workshops… Read More »

A weekend of beery fun

Here’s one more thing to do beerwise this weekend. In addition to the Oktoberfest event at Bergamot Alley I mentioned earlier this week, there’s the Second annual “Mowkeef Festival” at Anderson Valley up in Booneville on Saturday. The event celebrates the equinox and marks the release of the Mendo Mello fresh hop beer. The crew promises more rarities and fun stuff on tap. Slow Hand BBQ will serve up food and there will be a wings-and-beer consuming contest for the… Read More »
