Checking out Kenwood’s new gastropub and wine bar

In 2010 Jeff Tyler was approximately two years removed from owning a once successful construction business. Feeling the pressure of making a decision on which direction the rest of his life would go, Jeff decided that it was time for change. Jeff told me that one night he was up looking for inspiration and somehow ended up doing research into owning a hot dog stand. He smiled while recalling the moment that he woke his wife up in the middle… Read More »

U.S. brewery count tops 3,000

The Brewers Association has declared that the United States has crossed the 3,000-brewery count mark as of last month. It is believed that the count was well over 3,000 at some point in the 1800s, but this is by far the most amount of breweries to be operating at one time since the end of Prohibition. The majority of these breweries are very small production breweries that are catering to their city or town. The amount of options make for… Read More »

What if this were a Beer World Cup?

World Cup fever has taken over most of the world. The U.S. men’s soccer team will be playing in arguably the most important match in team history when they square off against Belgium today at 1pm. With all due respect to Germany who is still in the tournament the matchup of the U.S. vs. Belgium had me thinking, what if this was a Beer World Cup? Imagine if a panel of judges were to taste through a flight of the… Read More »

More honors pile up for Russian River Brewing Co.

What a month it has been for Russian River Brewing Co! Zymurgy readers have voted Pliny the Elder their #1 beer for the 6th time in a row. Now that we have that established, it’s time to open ourselves to the wonderful world of ciders. Locally we have Ace Cider who has been making cider for many years in the Sebastopol area. Their first cider was released in… Read More »

Lots to like at Cellarmaker Brewing Co. in SF

There are an abundance of breweries opening up throughout Northern California. The majority of them are producing good quality brews. There are however a handful of recently opened breweries that are producing exceptional brews. Cellarmaker Brewing Company in San Francisco is a great example of that. Established just one year ago in 2013, Cellarmaker has put together a line up of beers as tasty as any  other brewery I’ve been to in the last couple years. That lineup can change… Read More »

The beer was as good as expected. Besides special limited release beers by Lagunitas like a pomegranate pale, you had quite the list of breweries to choose from. The entertainment was over the top. Some of the acts I have seen at the Beer Circus in previous years but I still… Read More »
