Being that this is IPA Day and all, the Twittersphere is alive with discussions of Best IPAs and the like (including some dissenting opinions, such as this one, suggesting that we celebrate IPA Day by drinking some other kind of beer).

Writer and beer lover (and former Northern Californian) John Sciacca writes of the 10 best he’s ever tasted and it turns out to be a pretty mighty list (The guy’s a hophead’s hophead, it appears). For discussion purposes, here’s John’s list along with his reasons why.

Most of these are available in Northern California, with the significant exceptions of the Bell’s Hopslam (which is intense indeed) and Avery’s 20, which I have yet to try.

Here is the abbreviated version:

1. Stone, RuinTen

2. Russian River, Pliny the Elder

3. Drakes, Hopocalypse

4. Bell’s, Hopslam

5. Sierra Nevada, Hoptimum

6. Stone, Enjoy by 4-1-13

7. Knee Deep, Simtra

8. Green Flash, Palate Wrecker

9. Avery, 20

10. Napa Smith, Hopageddon
